Located on a bustling corridor in Melrose, one of the most walkable dining and shopping districts in LA, this former synagogue is now home to a health-conscious coffee shop and the second brick and mortar shop for Dosist. Derived from careful analysis of the proximate streetscape, Abramson Architects’ exterior redesign thickens the previously flat façade, integrating cafe activity into the building envelope while providing shelter from the harsh afternoon sun.
The resultant aluminum fin structure provides another layer to the design’s characteristic depth enhancing porosity and intimating a light airy ethos.
