Animating the Boulevard
Located on a corner lot in West Adams’ quickly transforming “Farmdale” neighborhood, the Hangar replaces an abandoned machine shop and parking lot with a creative office and restaurant building. Taking cues from its post-industrial context, cardinal orientation, and projected user desires, the Hangar synthesizes passive daylighting strategies with formal manipulation to generate dynamic spaces that promote communal activity within the building while providing a dynamic neighborhood amenity that both catalyzes and participates in the reanimation of the West Jefferson Boulevard pedestrian corridor.
