X Marks the Spot
An international software development company wanted its headquarters to serve as an iconic beacon for its brand and to provide an inspiring workplace for its largely young and energetic employees. The design team at AA leveraged the site’s position alongside an elevated freeway to design a building in a distinct stylized x shape. Easily visible from the freeway, the strong graphic shape makes a memorable impression that reflects the dynamism of the company.
The design choice of an x-shaped building serves to minimize the structure’s footplate and to increase the amount of natural light in the interior. The bright, airy feeling allowed by this configuration contributes to the employees’ sense of well being and energizes the workplace.
