The Arthur Ashe Center at UCLA is dedicated to supporting Bruins and providing quality healthcare and wellness education, yet the center’s entry wasn’t representative of these goals. UCLA embarked on an exercise to transform the purely functional encasement of the stairwell and elevators into an iconic entry including a welcoming lobby, gathering spaces, a multi-purpose room, and associated storage.
We collaborated with various UCLA stakeholders to re-imagine the entry’s programming and modernize the exterior facade of the 4-story primary and secondary care clinic.
After exploring various options, we designed a transparent series of stacked volumes that communicates the center’s commitment to “helping students shine, inside and out.”
The new entry uses clean lines and modern forms to bring a fresh upgrade to this part of the campus. Meanwhile, the material palette seamlessly blends into the traditional architecture of the UCLA Campus.
