Michael Lindell

Senior Project Designer
“Begin each project without any preconceived notions of what will be developed, thus allowing the solution to be invented and nurtured in order to solve the unique and specific problems at hand”

Philosophy

Michael likes to begin each project without any preconceived notions of what will be developed, thus allowing the solution to be invented and nurtured in order to solve the unique and specific problems at hand. His strength lies in understanding both the constraints and opportunities of individual projects that are distinctive to the site and program. In the past, Michael worked as a custom fabricator, designing and fabricating high-end architectural objects and sculptures at several studios in Chicago. This experience gave him an intimate knowledge of detail and craftsmanship that he applies to every architectural project, big or small. His varied experiences in fine arts and fabrication have given Michael a unique perspective on problem solving in a very pragmatic and poetic way.

Experience

Michael previously worked for Los Angeles-based firm SPF:a, where he was the lead designer for a diverse range of projects including high-end homes, hotels, retail spaces, offices, bridges, schools and cultural buildings. He joined Abramson Architects in 2016 where he works on retail spaces, offices, tenant improvements and high-end residences. Michael initiates the design direction of projects, taking it from inception to schematic design.

Tidbit

Michael grew up around fabrication machinery alongside his inventor father who taught him, if there is a problem to be solved, there is always a solution. Michael is always building something for his family, from metal lounge chairs to bookshelves. He has at least four to five prototypes going at any given time.
