Erik has always been passionate about healthcare. Initially pursuing studies in medicine and pharmacy, he discovered a natural aptitude for design and shifted his focus to architecture—ultimately finding his niche in healthcare design, where he could merge both interests. He brings over 20 years of experience solving complex design challenges to the team, specializing in creating patient-centered environments that also optimize staff efficiency.
As Project Director of Abramson Architects’ San Diego office, his work remains grounded in a 'people first' approach. Every space he designs balances patient well-being with the operational needs of physicians, caregivers, and facility teams. Having worked with major healthcare systems such as Kaiser Permanente, Sharp, Scripps, and UCSD Health, he understands the nuances of hospital environments, including the importance of regulatory approvals, infection control, and seamless project execution. He finds the most rewarding part of his work to be the ability to create calming, healing environments that measurably improve patient recovery.
While healthcare is his primary focus, Erik brings a broad design background that includes industrial, hospitality, and civic projects. His technical expertise—developed through years of hands-on experience across architecture, development, and construction—allows him to navigate complex projects with precision. Whether tackling a hospital renovation or a hands-on DIY project at home, he thrives on solving challenges of all scales.
